Long Duration Energy Storage and Peak Shaving

Flow batteries are set to transform long-duration energy storage, enabling up to a 50% increase in the share of renewable energy. Our systems deliver reliable energy storage for ten hours or longer, drastically reducing dependence on fossil fuels, ensuring stable grid operation, and sustainably strengthening energy security.

Long-duration storage plays a vital role in effective load management and balancing supply with demand. This makes flow batteries the preferred technology for a wide range of applications, from grid stabilization to the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources.

An example of the successful deployment of our metal-free flow battery technology is the Suqian Jingtai project. Here, a battery system with 200 kW and 1200 kWh capacity is installed. This system contributes to grid stabilization and enables a sustainable power supply. With a storage capacity of 1200 kWh, it provides reliable energy for several hours.

In power grids, balancing supply and demand is essential for maintaining a stable frequency. Traditional methods, which often rely on slow-reacting fossil fuel power plants, are inefficient. Thanks to their rapid response times and exceptional performance flow batteries provide a game-changing solution. They can seamlessly adapt to fluctuations in energy supply and demand, significantly improving grid stability.

Flow batteries are particularly suited for frequency regulation, providing a clean, fast, and reliable system for ensuring grid stability. These advanced systems enable grid operators to maintain a stable and sustainable energy supply.

A key example is the installation of a metal-free flow battery system (200 kW/400 kWh) at the Fujian Luoyuan power plant operated by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. This project is specifically designed for frequency regulation and plays a significant role in stabilizing the local power grid. Thanks to the rapid response capabilities of the flow battery, the system enables precise control of grid frequency.
